‘On Chesil Beach’ by Ian McEwan, was not an easy read, but certainly a brilliantly crafted book. The relationship between Edward and Camilla stays on a knife’s edge throughout – at any given moment, and there are plenty of those, things could go horribly wrong or surprisingly well. I will not reveal which way it went.
Even though it was gut wrenching to read, when I put I finally put it down, I was glad that I had read it and also utterly relieved, that because of a strong commitment (and surely a bit of good luck as we are all human), whenever my wife and I were faced with one of those moments that could go horribly wrong or surprisingly well over the last 12 years, we have always made the right decision.
Phew!
