The Natalie Merchant iTunes Session
July 29, 2010
I know Natalie Merchant as a) the chick from 10 000 Maniacs and b) the chick who covered ‘Because the night’, an original Bruce Springsteen track that I adore. I also know I have always enjoyed her very peculiar voice. (And if you don’t know her voice there is no hope for you.)
When I noticed iTunes had, a mere two days ago, released a live seven track ‘Natalie Merchant iTunes Session’ there was nothing to ponder. I bought it without previewing it.
I am beyond thrilled.
Natalie’s voice has never sounded more at ease, more saturated with emotion. It is showcased against bare acoustic arrangements and soft backing vocals. I am especially charmed by the jazzy undertones of ‘Political Science’ and ‘Ribbon Bow’.
