Family Afffair Volume II
Concept
My baby brother, RB, was seriously disabled (1982-2015). He had to fight to stay alive, and he did it with a grace and kindness that changed me, and others around him, irrevocably. Family Affair Volume II is firstly a tribute to his fighting spirit.
With no support structure for disabled people or their families, my family had to fight to keep RB alive, and give him some quality of life. Some family members could cope, while others could not. Family Affair Volume II is also a tribute to my family, and other families with disabled children/siblings, that fought, loved, failed, but sometimes managed to look after their loved ones.
Medium
The show will include photography, text and video. The stills and videos will be a combination of family 8mm reels, family albums, and stills and video that I shot. The text will include quotes from my published columns and novel.
Since the show is an excerpt from my family life, all images and text will be printed on (sometimes re-used) Moleskine diary pages.
